Comprehensive Genetic Testing for Better Patient Care
Pathway Genomics offers comprehensive genetic testing that genetic counselors can now offer to patients. The testing process is simple to administer and includes a survey of the patient's lifestyle and family history. The report includes conditions that are frequent in most major ethnic groups. This means that counselors and patients no longer need to rely on sometimes vague patient information about ethnicity to decide which testing is appropriate.
Our strong science is backed up with support from our onsite staff of experienced genetic counselors, available to you and your patients to discuss the details of the genetic reports. Best of all, we use technology and methods that lower the cost of personal genetic information, making it accessible and affordable.
available only to clinics and physicians.
What We Test For
- Pre-Pregnancy Planning: Starting a family is one of the most important decisions a couple will make. Genetic testing has become part of this process, and can help your patients make informed preconception choices in consultation with their physician. Prenatal genetics clinics can offer the Pre-Pregnancy Planning Insight to patients in place of traditional screening panels or in conjunction with other panels. Learn More.
- Health Conditions: Early intervention may improve lives. This report can help to determine a patient’s predisposition to common health conditions, such as asthma, type 1 and type 2 diabetes, cancers (lung, breast, prostate, melanoma) and heart disease. Learn More.
- Drug Response (Medication): Genetics can play a large role in a person’s response to drugs. As leaders in testing for drug response (pharmacogenetics), we screen for how an individual may respond to drugs such as Warfarin, a blood thinner, Plavix, which is used in treating cardiovascular diseases, and Tamoxifen, a common drug for breast cancer. Both the American College of Gynecology and the American Society of Reproductive Medicine recommend cystic fibrosis carrier status testing as part of preconception care. Additionally, it is advisable that certain ethnic groups be tested for specific genetic disorders. An example of this is that Ashkenazi Jews should be tested for a group of disorders that occur at increasing frequency in this population, including cystic fibrosis, Canavan disease, familial dysautonomia, and Tay-Sachs disease. The Pathway Pre-Pregnancy Report evaluates many conditions for most major ethnicities based on the availability of peer-reviewed scientific studies.
If you have any questions about these reports, please contact one of our staff counselors at counselors@pathway.com.
Painless, Private, and Easy to Understand
Your patient needs to provide just 2 ml of saliva for us to run our Comprehensive Genotyping testing; no blood is required nor should it be provided. The saliva collection process can be administered at your clinic by a non-technical person or can be done in the privacy of the patient's home. Typically, in a matter of weeks, the genetic report will be ready to view online and in a PDF file. Our onsite physicians and genetic counselors review each individual report before it is published. Patients and clinics have direct access to Pathway's staff of experienced genetic counselors to answer any questions about the results.
