Health

YOUR DNA, YOUR PERSONAL HEALTH

Even if you don't have a family history of a condition, you could still be at risk. The information is often hidden in your genes. Pathway Genomics Personal DNA Test helps uncover the secrets of your genetics. We provide easy-to-understand, personalized guidance to help you decrease your chances of developing certain diseases and learning which drugs will work best.

For example, if you have genetic markers that indicate a higher risk for Alzheimer's Disease, breast cancer, diabetes, or heart disease, wouldn't you want your doctor to know? More frequent screenings might be in order, but prevention is the best medicine. You may be able to take specific lifestyle steps to protect yourself as well.

With the Pathway Genomics Personal DNA Test, our certified geneticists scan your DNA for known genetic risk markers associated with adverse health conditions and drug interactions, with more tests are just over the horizon. Some markers have been researched more thoroughly than others, yet scientific knowledge advances rapidly. That is why we offer DNA HealthGuard™ with every Personal DNA Test. DNA HealthGuard™ automatically notifies you when new science and updates become available.

Pathway Genomics tests for disease risk, carrier status for pre-pregnancy screening, negative and positive drug responses, diseases that can be passed onto your children and genetic traits.

Ancestry

ANCESTRY: IT'S WHO YOU ARE

Ever wonder where you and your family came from? Pathway Genomics DNA testing will discover more about your personal heritage than you ever thought possible. In fact, it's the world's most comprehensive DNA ancestry analysis available.

We uncover your deep ancestry by taking giant leaps into the past, going back more than 10,000 years. We test both your mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), which is passed down from mother to child and reveals your direct maternal ancestry; and your Y-chromosome (Y-DNA, males only), which is passed down from father to son and reveals your direct paternal ancestry. Our ancestry DNA tests cover more than 1000 maternal and over 200 paternal haplogroups!

In the past, genealogy was a science akin to investigative journalism, digging deep into family and historical records. Modern genomics has changed all that. Now we can look inside your DNA to uncover your ancestry.

How We Test

Pathway will assay for thousands of specific sequence variations in your genome. Most of these are Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs, pronounced "snips"). SNPs are single DNA-base variations or substitutions present in all human DNA. Variation at specific positions in the genome contributes to your physical traits, susceptibility to disease and your ability to respond to certain medicines.

What it means

The genetic information provided will not tell you whether you have or do not have a specific disease or condition. Based on your DNA analysis, your Pathway Genomics results may alert you to possible disease risks and what to do about them, potentially life-threatening drug interactions, your personal ancestry back up to 10,000 years, and more. It's the science of you.

Counselors are available.

Because of the complexity and inherent uncertainties in genetic information, we recommend that you discuss the results of your genetic test with a genetic professional, either a Genetic Counselor or a physician with specialty training in genetics. Our on-staff Genetic Counselors are available any time to review your Pathway Genomics results with you.
